हित्वा मृगेन्द्रं नरराशिवश्याः सर्वे तथैषां जलजाश्च भक्ष्याः ।
सर्वेऽपि सिंहस्य वशे विनालिं ज्ञेयं नराणां व्यवहारतोऽन्यत् ।। २३ ।।

Vashya means influence or attraction, while Bhakshya literally means that which may be consumed or brought under control. In marriage matching, this koota is used symbolically to judge mutual attraction and responsiveness between the prospective partners. It carries 2 points.

Classification of the Five Vashyas

• Chatushpada (quadruped): Aries, Taurus, the latter half of Sagittarius and the first half of Capricorn.
• Nara (human): Gemini, Virgo, Libra, the first half of Sagittarius and Aquarius.
• Jalachara (aquatic): Cancer, the latter half of Capricorn and Pisces.
• Vanachara (wild): Leo.
• Keeta (insect): Scorpio.
