Lunar Eclipse Remedies: Authentic Donations & Easy Alternatives
Namaste and welcome to Online Jyotish (onlinejyotish.com). The occurrence of an eclipse often brings a sense of spiritual awareness and, sometimes, concern. Today's lunar eclipse is taking place in Simha Rasi (Leo) and Purva Phalguni (Pubba) Nakshatra. Eclipses do not affect everyone in the same way; while they bring highly auspicious results for some, they may cause temporary challenges for others. Let us explore how this eclipse impacts your zodiac sign and the authentic remedies (Shanti and Danam) prescribed by our ancient sages to overcome any negative effects.
Impact of the Eclipse on Various Zodiac Signs (Astrological Advice)
Based on your Moon sign (Rasi) at the time of the eclipse, the results are categorized into three types. Check your sign below to see if you need to perform any remedies:
- Auspicious Results (Shubha Phalam): Gemini (3rd house), Libra (11th house), Scorpio (10th house), and Pisces (6th house). Individuals with these signs do not have any eclipse dosha and will experience positive outcomes.
- Average Results (Samanya Phalam): Aries (5th house), Cancer (2nd house), Sagittarius (9th house), and Aquarius (7th house). People with these signs should be a bit cautious. Performing basic remedies is recommended.
- Unfavorable Results (Adhama Phalam): Taurus (4th house), Leo (1st house/Janma Rasi), Virgo (12th house), and Capricorn (8th house). Individuals born under these signs must perform Grahana Shanti (remedies) for their family's well-being. Those born in Pubba Nakshatra must strictly follow the remedy procedures.
Traditional Eclipse Remedy Procedure (Shastrokta Pariharam)
If you belong to the signs experiencing average or unfavorable results, you should take a bath in a nearby river after the eclipse ends or the following morning. If a river is not accessible, taking a bath at home with pure water is perfectly fine. Afterward, perform the following donation (Danam):
- Take a copper, steel, or bronze bowl and fill it with pure cow's ghee.
- Submerge a small silver idol of the Moon (Chandra) and a silver or gold idol of a snake (representing Rahu/Ketu) into the ghee.
- Donate this bowl to a pious Brahmin along with rice, clothes, a coconut, betel leaves, nuts, and Dakshina according to your capacity (Yatha Shakti).
- Since eclipses involve the influence of nodes, include Black Gram (for Rahu) or Horse Gram (for Ketu) in your donation.
Sankalpam and Donation Mantras
While giving the donation, recite the following Sankalpam (vow) with devotion in your mind:
"Mama janma rashi, janma nakshatra, chaturthadyarishta sthana sthita grahana suchita sarvarishta prashanti purvaka, ekadasha sthana sthita grahana suchita shubhapala praptyartham bimbadanam karishye."
Then, recite this Shloka while handing over the donation bowl to the Brahmin:
Tamomaya mahabhima soma surya vimardana |
Hamatara pradanena mama shantiprado bhava ||
Vidhuntuda namastubhyam simhikanandanachyuta |
Danenanena nagasya rakshamam vedhaja dbhayat ||
A Simple Alternative Remedy for Everyone
In our fast-paced modern lives, it might not be possible for everyone to arrange silver/gold idols and a ghee-filled bowl immediately. There is no need to worry. Our Dharma Shastras emphasize devotion above all.
If you cannot perform the traditional donation, simply offer a Dakshina (donation) according to your capacity at a nearby Shiva temple and perform an Abhishekam to Lord Shiva, either personally or through a priest. Lord Shiva, the ultimate destroyer of fears and doshas, will protect you. Doing this with a pure heart clears all eclipse-related flaws, bringing excellent health, peace, and auspicious results to you and your family.
