Frequently Asked Questions

Are these astrology tools available in my language?
Most calculators (Panchang, Hora, Choghadiya, Muhurta, transits, eclipses, tithi finders, vastu, gem report, Rudraksha) are available in 18 languages: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Nepali, Sinhala, French, German, Russian, Japanese and Chinese - select your preferred language inside each tool's input form. Astrology Lessons, Navagraha Stotras and Planetary Remedies are currently in English, Hindi and Telugu (more languages coming). The Astrology Quiz is in English and Telugu. Baby Names is in English. 100-year Ephemeris, Articles, Software and Mobile Apps pages are reference content and do not use a language picker.
What is the difference between Hora, Choghadiya, and Muhurta timings?
Hora divides the day and night into 24 planetary hours, each ruled by one of the seven classical planets. Choghadiya (Chowghati) splits day and night into 8 segments labelled Shubh, Labh, Amrit, Char, Rog, Kaal, Udveg. Muhurta is the broader umbrella - any auspicious time slot selected for an activity, often using Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Lagna together.
How are Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam and Gulika Kalam calculated?
These three inauspicious time periods (called Kala times) are calculated by dividing the duration between sunrise and sunset into 8 equal parts. Each weekday assigns specific parts to Rahu, Yamaganda and Gulika. Because they depend on local sunrise/sunset, the timings shift based on your city's latitude and longitude.
Why does retrograde (Vakri) motion matter in Vedic astrology?
When a planet appears to move backward against the zodiac, it is called retrograde or Vakri. Classical Jyotish texts give retrograde planets special interpretive weight - they are considered to act with extra strength on the houses they rule and aspect, often delaying or revisiting matters connected with those houses.
What is Guru/Sukra Moudyam (combustion)?
When Jupiter (Guru) or Venus (Sukra) comes too close to the Sun's rays, the planet becomes combust (Asta or Moudyam). During this period, the planet's beneficial significations are considered weakened. Auspicious activities like marriage and Upanayana are traditionally avoided during Guru and Sukra Moudyam.
Are these Panchang and Muhurta calculations location-specific?
Yes. Sunrise, sunset, Tithi end times, Nakshatra transitions and all derived timings (Hora, Rahu Kalam, Choghadiya, Lagna) are computed using your city's latitude and longitude. The tools use topocentric coordinates for sunrise/moonrise and Lahiri Ayanamsha (Chitra Paksha) for sidereal positions - the standard for traditional Indian Panchang.

About These Tools

Developed and verified by Sri Santhosh Kumar Sharma Gollapelli (26+ years). Algorithms use Lahiri Ayanamsha (Chitra Paksha) and Swiss Ephemeris data for high astronomical precision.

Note: Festival and eclipse dates on this website are calculated using Swiss Ephemeris and Drik Siddhanta. Timings shown are adjusted for your selected city's latitude and longitude, with sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset computed using topocentric coordinates. Minor differences may still occur due to regional traditions or local panchangam variations. When in doubt, please verify with your local panchangam or family priest.
