A Guide to Muhurta Lagna & Auspicious Amshas
Choosing a powerful Muhurta goes beyond just a good Tithi or Nakshatra. The strength of the Lagna (Ascendant) and its subdivisions (Amshas) is paramount for ensuring success.
The Lagna is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment an event begins. It acts as the "First House" of the Muhurta chart and represents the event's body, vitality, and overall potential for success. A strong Lagna, whose ruling planet is well-placed, gives a powerful and positive start to any undertaking.
Within the divisional charts, certain specific degrees are considered exceptionally blessed and nourishing. These are known as **Pushkara**.
- Pushkara Navamsa: A specific, highly auspicious subdivision in the D9 (Navamsa) chart. When the Lagna or a key planet falls here, it is said to be "nourished" and gains immense strength to overcome obstacles.
- Pushkara Bhaga: This is an even more precise degree within the zodiac that is considered extremely fortunate.
Starting an event during a Pushkaramsa Lagna is one of the best remedies to ensure a positive, successful, and divinely protected outcome.
A Lagna is **Vargottama** when its zodiac sign is the same in both the main Rashi (D1) chart and the Navamsa (D9) chart. For example, if the Lagna is rising in Aries in the Rashi chart and is also in Aries in the Navamsa chart, it is Vargottama.
This alignment gives immense strength, stability, and enduring power to the Lagna. Events started during a Vargottama Lagna have a very strong foundation and produce consistent, long-lasting results.
"Shubhamsha" is a general term for any auspicious divisional placement. When the Lagna falls in the vargas (divisions) of benefic planets like Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, or a well-placed Moon, it is considered to be in a Shubhamsha, which adds strength and favorability to the Muhurta.
