How the Ascendant is calculated
The calculation combines the entered civil time with its timezone, the birthplace coordinates, Earth’s rotation and the zodiac settings used by the service. The calculator then identifies the sidereal sign and degree on the eastern horizon.
Why results can differ:
A tropical calculator and a sidereal Vedic calculator will normally show different signs or degrees.
Two sidereal calculators can also differ because of Ayanamsha,

Why is exact birth time important?
The Ascendant moves continuously and can change signs within roughly two hours, although the actual duration varies by latitude and season. A smaller time error can also change the Lagna degree and house cusps.
Can a few minutes change the Lagna?
Yes, especially when the Ascendant is close to a sign boundary. Even when the sign remains unchanged, the exact degree, Navamsha and other time-sensitive chart factors may change.
Why are birthplace and timezone required?
The calculator needs latitude, longitude and the correct civil-time offset to determine what was rising at the entered local time. Historical daylight-saving rules and incorrect city selection can change the result.
What is the difference between Lagna and Moon sign?
Lagna is based on the eastern horizon at the birth time and place. The Moon sign is the zodiac sign occupied by the Moon. They are calculated differently and are used for different parts of Vedic chart interpretation.

Why can two Ascendant calculators show different results?
Differences can arise from tropical versus sidereal zodiac, Ayanamsha choice, timezone or daylight-saving data, coordinates, house settings, atmospheric assumptions and rounding near a sign boundary.
Does this calculator rectify an uncertain birth time?
No. It calculates the Ascendant for the time that you enter. Birth-time rectification is a separate interpretive process and cannot be completed by this calculator alone.
Is the Ascendant alone enough for a complete prediction?
