Free Star Matching for Marriage (Nakshatra Compatibility)

Marriage Matching (Ashtakoota) with Rashi & Nakshatra

In Vedic astrology, matching the Gunas (points/score) is the first step in ensuring a harmonious marriage. This free online tool uses the Ashtakoota system (popular in North India and most parts of South India) to check compatibility between the moon signs (Rashi) and stars (Nakshatra) of the couple. It also tells if doshas like Eka Nadi Dosha, Bhakuta Dosha, Gana Dosha, etc. are cancelled or not. This is a primary and important verification tool for marriage matching.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ashtakoota Melanam is the most popular compatibility method in Vedic astrology. It evaluates harmony across 8 parameters (Kootas) and assigns a total score out of 36 Gunas.

The 36 points are distributed among these 8 categories :
  1. Varna (1 point): Ego compatibility.
  2. Vashya (2 points): Mutual attraction and control.
  3. Tara (3 points): Destiny and luck factor.
  4. Yoni (4 points): Sexual and biological compatibility.
  5. Graha Maitri (5 points): Psychological friendship.
  6. Gana (6 points): Temperament (Deva, Manushya, Rakshasa).
  7. Bhakoot (7 points): Emotional bonding and family welfare.
  8. Nadi (8 points): Health and genetics (Most Critical).

Nadi Koota carries the highest weight (8 points). It relates to the physiological and genetic constitution (Ayurvedic Doshas - Vata, Pitta, Kapha).
If both partners have the same Nadi (Adi, Madhya, or Antya), it creates Nadi Dosha. This is considered risky for the health of the couple and the health of their future children.

Bhakoot (Rashi Guna) carries 7 points. It checks the relative position of the Moon Signs (Rashis).
Unfavorable positions like 6-8 (Shadashtaka) or 2-12 (Dwidwadasha) cause Bhakoot Dosha, which can lead to emotional disconnect or financial instability. However, this dosha is often cancelled if the Rashi lords are friends.

Yes, 18 is the passing mark. However, the distribution matters. Even with a high score, if Nadi Dosha or Bhakoot Dosha is present without cancellation, the match may not be recommended. Conversely, a lower score with good Graha Maitri and Nadi Shuddhi can be acceptable.

"I have been practicing Vedic Astrology for 26 years. My goal with OnlineJyotish is to make traditional Jyotish calculations accessible to everyone, free of cost. While I was learning astrology, I used to cast horoscopes manually. It was a very time-consuming and laborious process. Later, when I started practicing astrology around the year 2000, I faced the same problem — even though I had a computer, there was almost no good software or website that could cast accurate Vedic horoscopes. That is why I created this website and started offering free horoscopes to both astrologers and the general public — so that no one else would have to go through the same difficulties I faced."
