Shraddha Tithi Calendar (Monthly Aparahna Tithi)

Monthly Shraddha Tithi Calendar 2026

Ensure your ancestral rituals (Pitru Karya) are performed on the correct day. This calendar identifies the Aparahna Vyapini Tithi—the only valid timing for Shraddha according to Dharma Shastra.

Quick Summary: The Golden Rule

  • The Rule: For Shraddha, the Tithi must exist during the Aparahna Kaala (Afternoon), not necessarily at Sunrise.
  • Confusion: Because of this rule, the 'Shraddha Date' often differs from the 'Calendar Date' seen in standard almanacs.
  • Solution: This tool calculates the Aparahna window for your specific city to find the exact date.

Why Standard Calendars Get It Wrong

Most wall calendars follow the Udaya Tithi (Sunrise Tithi) rule, which is valid for festivals like Diwali or Rama Navami. However, for Shraddha (Death Anniversary), the scriptures explicitly state that the Tithi must be dominant in the afternoon (Aparahna).

Glossary of Shraddha Terms

Term Meaning
Aparahna The 4th part of the day (roughly 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM). The time for ancestors.
Kutupa Muhurta The most auspicious 48-minute window within Aparahna for starting the ritual.
Tithi Dwayam When two Tithis occur in the same Aparahna. Special logic is needed to choose one.
Mahalaya The great fortnight (Pitru Paksha) dedicated entirely to ancestors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike regular birthdays, Shraddha Tithi is determined by the 'Aparahna Vyapini' rule. The Tithi that prevails during the Aparahna Kaala (afternoon, roughly 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM) is the valid Tithi for ancestral rituals, even if it is not present at Sunrise.

This is called 'Tithi Dwayam'. In such cases, the day where the Tithi covers the maximum part of the Aparahna Kaala is selected. Our calculator automatically applies these complex Dharma Shastra rules.

A Kshaya (Decayed) Tithi is one that begins after sunrise and ends before the next sunrise. For Shraddha, if a Tithi is Kshaya, specific rules apply to determine eligibility, which this tool handles automatically.

Source & Accuracy: These calculations strictly adhere to the Nirnaya Sindhu and Dharma Sindhu texts. Developed by Vedic Astrologer Sri Santhosh Kumar Sharma.
