In Vedic Astrology, the planet Venus (Shukra) is the significator of marriage (Kalatra Karaka) and worldly comforts. For any auspicious event (Muhurtha) to be fruitful, the strength of Venus is essential. When Venus gets too close to the Sun, it enters a state called 'Moudhyami' or 'Asta' (Combustion), losing its power. Consequently, performing auspicious ceremonies like marriages is prohibited during this time.
Shukra Moudhyami Dates
According to the Panchang, Venus will remain combust from late 2025 into early 2026.
- Start Date: 26 November 2025 (Wednesday)
- End Date: 17 February 2026 (Tuesday)
No auspicious Muhurthas are available during this period of approximately three months.
Prohibited Activities (Don'ts)
When Jupiter (Guru) or Venus (Shukra) are combust, the cosmic energy required for new beginnings is weak. Tradition dictates that the following activities should be avoided:
- Vedic Sacraments (Samskaras): Marriage (Vivaha), Thread Ceremony (Upanayana), and Ear Piercing (Karnavedha).
- Construction & Housing: Ground-breaking ceremony (Shankusthapana) and House Warming (Griha Pravesh).
- Religious Installations: Consecration of idols (Pratishtha), starting new Yagnas, or initiation into new Mantras.
- Others: Digging new wells or ponds, major charities (Mahadana), and coronations or assuming new high-level offices.
Allowed Activities (Dos)
While new auspicious beginnings are paused, remedial measures and daily rituals must continue. The following can be performed without fear:
- Shanti Pujas: Remedial prayers for Ganda Moola Nakshatras (Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Moola, etc.).
- Health Remedies: Japas, Havans, and Abhishekas aimed at curing illnesses or warding off sudden calamities (Utpata Dosha).
- Routine Rituals: Daily prayers, Vratas (vows) that are already ongoing.
- Time-bound Samskaras: Rituals that must be done based on the age of the child or month of pregnancy, such as Annaprasana (first feeding) and Pumsavana, are permitted.
