- Nadi Koota carries the highest allocation in Ashtakoota matching: 8 points.
- Different Nadis receive 8 points; the same Nadi, called Eka Nadi, receives 0.
- Nadi Dosha is cancelled when the Moon sign is the same but the nakshatras differ, or when the nakshatra is the same but the Moon signs differ.
- Rohini, Ardra, Magha, Vishakha, Pushya, Shravana, Uttara Bhadrapada and Bharani are listed in a traditional exception to Eka Nadi Dosha.
- Some classical authorities assign primary importance to Nadi Dosha specifically for the Brahmin Varna.

Explanation: Verse 34 of Muhurta Chintamani describes marriage between two people of the same Nadi as inauspicious. It gives particular emphasis to a Madhya–Madhya combination, using language that associates it with serious danger. The verse therefore treats the Madhya-Nadi repetition as more severe than Adi–Adi or Antya–Antya combinations. Nadi Koota is traditionally associated with health, constitution and the prospects of progeny.
Nadi Dosha Cancellation Rules from Classical Texts
1. Jyotirnibandha — Different Nakshatra or Rashi Exception
rukṣaikye rāśibhede ca rāśyaikye rukṣabhinnake ।
nāḍīdoṣo na vidyate tathā gaṇakṛto raṇaḥ ।।
Meaning: When the bride and groom have the same nakshatra but different Moon signs, or the same Moon sign but different nakshatras, Nadi Dosha and Gana Dosha do not apply.
2. Vasistha Samhita — Varna-Based Assessment
viprāṇāṃ nāḍīdoṣastu kṣatriyāṇāṃ bhakūṭakam ।
vaiśyānāṃ gaṇadoṣastu śūdrāṇāṃ varṇadoṣakaḥ ।।
Meaning: This verse gives primary importance to Nadi Dosha for Brahmins, Bhakoota Dosha for Kshatriyas, Gana Dosha for Vaishyas and Varna Dosha for Shudras. Accordingly, some traditional practitioners assess Nadi Dosha as less severe for the other Varnas.
3. Narada Samhita — Special Nakshatra Exceptions
rohiṇyārdrā maghā puṣyo viśākhā śravaṇo bharaṇī ।
uttarābhādrapaccaiva ekanāḍī na doṣakṛt ।।
Meaning: Eka Nadi Dosha is said not to apply when the bride and groom are born under Rohini, Ardra, Magha, Pushya, Vishakha, Shravana, Bharani or Uttara Bhadrapada, according to this traditional exception.
4. Muhurta Ganapati — Friendship of Rashi or Navamsha Lords
rāśyādhipau cetsuhṛdau samau vā navāṃśanāthau suhṛdau yadāstām ।
tadāpi nāḍījajanito na doṣaḥ sarvairbudhaiḥ samparikīrtitoऽyam ।।
Meaning: Nadi Dosha is cancelled when the lords of the bride's and groom's Moon signs are mutual friends or equals, or when their Navamsha lords are friendly and strong.
