Astrology Lessons - Ashtakavarga System (Points Based Analysis)

Other astrological methods are often qualitative, but Ashtakavarga is a unique, mathematical system that provides quantitative points (Bindus) for each sign. It determines how much support a sign receives from all the planets combined. This score is called Sarvashtakavarga (SAV).

Interpreting SAV Scores

SAV Point Score Strength and Results
Above 28 Points The sign is Strong. Transits through this sign and matters related to this house will be highly successful.
25 to 28 Points Average strength. Provides neutral or stable results.
Below 25 Points The sign is Weak. When planets transit here, one may face hardships, delays, or health issues.

Application in Transits (Gochar)

Transit results vary for everyone because of Ashtakavarga. For example, if transiting Saturn is in Aries:

  • If your Ashtakavarga for Aries has 35 points, Saturn cannot cause major harm and will instead grant success.
  • If Aries has only 19 points, that same Saturn transit will bring significant struggles and stress.
Always check the SAV score to confirm if a transit will be favorable or not.

Note: Festival and eclipse dates on this website are calculated using Swiss Ephemeris and Drik Siddhanta. Timings shown are adjusted for your selected city's latitude and longitude, with sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset computed using topocentric coordinates. Minor differences may still occur due to regional traditions or local panchangam variations. When in doubt, please verify with your local panchangam or family priest.
