The role of the Moon is very unique in astrology. If the Sun is the King, the Moon is the Queen. The Moon is the significator of the Mind (Manas), mother, emotions, and liquids. Unlike other planets, the Moon has a special feature: Paksha Bala (Strength of the Lunar Phase). During the Waxing Phase (Shukla Paksha), the Moon acts as a natural benefic, while during the Waning Phase (Krishna Paksha), it behaves as a natural malefic.

Taurus	3rd Lord (Upachaya)	Malefic	The Moon is exalted here, but as the lord of the 3rd house (a house of struggle), it acts as a functional malefic. Favorable Positions: 3, 1 (Exalted), 10. Results: Interest in arts, travels. Mental strength if in the Lagna.
Gemini	2nd Lord (Dhana/Maraka)	Neutral/Maraka	Enemy to Lagna lord Mercury (Moon views Mercury as an enemy, though Mercury is neutral). 2nd house is a Maraka house. Favorable Positions: 2 (Own sign), 11. Results: Good eloquence. Wealth may not be stable (fluctuations).
Cancer	1st Lord (Lagna)	Benefic	As the Lagna lord, it is purely benefic. Provides health and fame. Favorable Positions: 1, 4, 5, 9, 10. Results: Social respect, good health, and a kind nature.
Leo	12th Lord (Vyaya)	Malefic	Friend to Lagna lord Sun, but lord of the 12th Dusthana. Thus, neutral or malefic. Favorable Positions: 12 (Vipareeta Raja Yoga), 3, 6, 8 (to some extent). Results: Mental anxiety, insomnia. Favorable for foreign travels.
Virgo	11th Lord (Labha)	Malefic	Not a friend to Lagna lord Mercury. For dual Ascendants, the 11th is also a Badhaka house. Favorable Positions: 11, 2, 9. Results: Gains through friends, but issues with elders may arise.
Libra	10th Lord (Rajya)	Benefic	Though an enemy to Lagna lord Venus, as the lord of a Kendra (10th), it provides auspicious results. Favorable Positions: 10 (Own sign), 1, 4, 5, 9. Results: Popularity in profession (Fame). Good for politics or business.
Scorpio	9th Lord (Bhagya)	Yogakaraka	Friend to Lagna lord Mars and a trine lord. However, the Moon is debilitated in the Lagna. Favorable Positions: 9 (Own sign), 4, 5, 10. Results: Fortune, divine devotion. Mental weakness if in the Lagna.
Sagittarius	8th Lord (Ashtama)	Malefic	Lord of the 8th house, hence a blemish. Some say Moon is exempt from Ashtama Dosha, but hardships exist in results. Favorable Positions: 6, 8, 12 (for Vipareeta Raja Yoga). Results: Danger through water, mental fears, lung issues.
Capricorn	7th Lord (Kalatra/Maraka)	Maraka	Enemy to Lagna lord Saturn. 7th house is a Maraka house. Results in Maraka effects. Favorable Positions: 7, 4, 10. Results: Beautiful spouse, but potential for misunderstandings.
Aquarius	6th Lord (Shatru/Roga)	Severe Malefic	Enemy to Lagna lord Saturn and lord of the 6th Dusthana. Not good for health. Favorable Positions: 6, 8, 12. Results: Colds, coughs, mental stress. Ill health for the mother.
Pisces	5th Lord (Putra)	Benefic	Friend to Lagna lord Jupiter. Lord of the 5th house (past life merits), hence extremely benefic. Favorable Positions: 5 (Own sign), 1, 4, 9. Results: Good progeny, creativity, Mantra Siddhi, success in love affairs.

Tips for Prediction

Paksha Bala: If the Moon is a Full Moon, it gives somewhat good results even with a malefic lordship. A New Moon gives diminished results even with a benefic lordship.
Kemadruma Yoga: If there are no planets on either side of the Moon (excluding Sun and Rahu/Ketu), "Kemadruma Yoga" is formed. This gives mental isolation.
Cancellation of Debilitation: Even if the Moon is debilitated in Scorpio Ascendant, if Mars is in a Kendra, the blemish is removed, leading to a Raja Yoga.
