Astrology Lessons - Rahu and Ketu Results based on Ascendant (Rahu & Ketu for All Lagnas)

In astrology, Rahu and Ketu are known as Shadow Planets (Chaya Grahas). They do not own any zodiac signs. They behave like the lord of the sign they occupy or the planet they are conjunct with. Rahu represents desire and the future, while Ketu represents detachment and the past.

In this lesson, we examine which Ascendants these shadow planets favor and the results of their major conjunctions.

1. Functional Nature for Different Lagnas

Rahu and Ketu provide different results based on the planetary friendships of the Lagna lord.

Rahu Favors:

Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, and Aquarius Ascendants. (Signs ruled by friends Mercury, Venus, and Saturn).

Ketu Favors:

Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Pisces Ascendants. (Signs ruled by friends Mars, Sun, Moon, and Jupiter).

2. Major Planetary Conjunctions (Yogas)

When Rahu or Ketu joins other planets, they create specific effects:

1. Ganesha Yoga

Jupiter + Ketu. This is the yoga for wisdom, intuition, and spiritual heights. Good for astrologers and researchers.

2. Guru-Chandal Yoga

Jupiter + Rahu. Makes a person act against traditions. Can provide immense wealth but affects reputation or character.

3. Grahan Yoga (Eclipse)

Sun/Moon + Rahu/Ketu. Causes lack of self-confidence (Sun) or mental anxiety (Moon). Hinders professional or mental stability.

4. Angaraka Yoga

Mars + Rahu. Provides extreme energy and aggression. Without control, it leads to accidents. Good for police and military.

Note on Kala Sarpa Dosha: When all planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu, this Dosha is formed. It causes initial struggles followed by success after the age of 33 or 36.

Note: Festival and eclipse dates on this website are calculated using Swiss Ephemeris and Drik Siddhanta. Timings shown are adjusted for your selected city's latitude and longitude, with sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset computed using topocentric coordinates. Minor differences may still occur due to regional traditions or local panchangam variations. When in doubt, please verify with your local panchangam or family priest.
