Astrology Lessons - Vimsottari Dasha System (Timing of Events)

Even with numerous powerful yogas in a horoscope, they manifest only when the correct Time (Dasha) arrives. Maharishi Parashara declared the Vimsottari Dasha system as the most standard and effective for the current age (Kali Yuga). It consists of a total cycle of 120 years.

Planetary Periods in Vimsottari Dasha

# Planet (Graha) Years assigned
1Sun (Surya)6 Years
2Moon (Chandra)10 Years
3Mars (Kuja)7 Years
4Rahu18 Years
5Jupiter (Guru)16 Years
6Saturn (Shani)19 Years
7Mercury (Budha)17 Years
8Ketu7 Years
9Venus (Shukra)20 Years
Total Cycle 120 Years

How to Calculate the Starting Dasha?

The Dasha at the time of birth is determined by the **Janma Nakshatra** (Moon's Nakshatra). For example, if a child is born in **Bharani Nakshatra** (ruled by Venus), their life begins with the **Venus Dasha**. The sequence then follows the exact order mentioned in the table above.
