Ashlesha is the ninth Nakshatra, located from 16°40' to 30°00' in Cancer. Symbolized by a Coiled Serpent, it represents intense psychological power, mystery, and hidden knowledge. Its ruling deities are the Nagas (Serpent Gods).
General Characteristics
- Lord: Mercury.
- Gana: Rakshasa Gana.
- Nature: Sharp/Fierce (Tikshna).
- Traits: Highly intuitive, secretive, and protective. They possess a "hypnotic" personality and can excel in research and foreign relations.
The Four Quarters (Padas)
| Pada | Navamsa Sign | Results / Traits |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Pada | Sagittarius (Jupiter) | Higher education, spiritual inquiry, and scholarly attitude. |
| 2nd Pada | Capricorn (Saturn) | Focus on business, secrecy, and hardworking nature. |
| 3rd Pada | Aquarius (Saturn) | Excellent for research, occult, and foreign connections. |
| 4th Pada | Pisces (Jupiter) | Gandanta. Intense mental conflict but leads to ultimate spiritual realization. |
The Gandanta Influence
As Ashlesha ends the Cancer sign (Water) and joins the Leo sign (Fire), it is a Gandanta point. Specifically, the 4th pada is considered sensitive regarding the native's maternal side or mother-in-law. Chanting the Subrahmanya Mantra and performing 'Shanti' ceremonies is highly beneficial.
