Astrology Lessons - Planetary War (Graha Yuddha)

When two non-luminary planets (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) occupy the same sign and are within one degree of each other, they are said to be in Planetary War (Graha Yuddha). Just like two kings fighting for one throne, only one planet emerges as the winner, while the other is defeated.

The Rule of Victory

In general, the planet with the lower longitude (degree and minute) is considered the Victor (Jayi). However, Venus is often considered the victor even if its degree is higher.

Interpreting the Results

Status Impact and Result
Defeated Planet (Nirjita) This planet loses its power almost completely. During its Dasha or Antardasha, the native may face insults, failures, and financial losses.
Victor Planet (Jayi) This planet becomes exceptionally strong. It not only grants its own results but also takes over the significance of the defeated planet, providing a form of Raja Yoga.
Critical Note: The Sun and Moon never participate in planetary war. Rahu and Ketu also remain outside this concept.

Note: Festival and eclipse dates on this website are calculated using Swiss Ephemeris and Drik Siddhanta. Timings shown are adjusted for your selected city's latitude and longitude, with sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset computed using topocentric coordinates. Minor differences may still occur due to regional traditions or local panchangam variations. When in doubt, please verify with your local panchangam or family priest.
