Tenth House - Karma and Social Status

The Tenth House in the birth chart represents the Midheaven (the highest point in the sky). It determines the 'work' or 'Karma' a person performs in this world. It is primarily known as 'Karma Sthana' (House of Action) and 'Rajya Sthana' (House of Authority). A person's social standing, the respect they command, their power, and professional success depend entirely on this house. It is considered the strongest among the Kendra houses (1, 4, 7, 10).

The Tenth House is a symbol of a person's success in the external world. Let us examine its significations by categorizing them:

1. Career & Profession Livelihood: The job or business one pursues, professional growth, and promotions.
Authority: Positions in the government sector, leadership qualities, and management skills.
2. Fame & Honor Social Status: Reputation, titles, awards, and the respect received from the public.
Influence: The impact one has on others and the power to command.
3. Politics & Government Relations with the government, political success, state authority, and legal honors.
4. Father Figure Father: In South Indian astrology, the 10th house is also considered a significator for the Father (though the 9th is primary, the 10th represents the father's status and karma).

Through the Tenth House, we can also calculate details regarding other relatives of the native:

  • 7th House from the Mother: The 4th house represents the mother. The 7th from it (Spouse/Partner) is the 10th house. This is why it is often said to represent the father as the mother's spouse.
  • Sickness of Children: The 5th house represents children. The 6th from it (House of Sickness) is the 10th house (5+6-1 = 10). Indications of children's health can be seen here.
  • 8th House from Siblings: The 3rd house represents younger siblings. The 8th from it (House of Danger/Obstacles) is the 10th house. It indicates dangers or transformations for siblings.
