This calendar of festivals and important days has been prepared based on the rules given in Hindu scriptures like Nirnaya Sindhu, Dharma Sindhu, etc. It has been created for the benefit of all followers of Hinduism worldwide. If you find any mistake in this calendar regarding any festival or any important day, or if any festival related to your region is not included, please inform me by emailing admin@onlinejyotish.com. Thank you for your cooperation.

How We Calculate (Methodology)

  • Vyapini (tithi prevalence): festival day chosen using correct local-sunrise rules.
  • Bhadra / Vishti: avoided where applicable (e.g., Raksha Bandhan aparahna without Bhadra).
  • Smarta vs Vaishnava Ekadashi: both dates shown when traditions differ; parana windows included.
  • Pradosham & Masik Shivaratri: computed from local sunset, Nishita and Lingodbhava spans.
  • Saṅkramaṇa (solar ingress): sidereal Sun with Lahiri ayanamsha; Punya-kala rules per scripture.
  • Sankashti Chaturthi: Krishna Chaturthi after Purnima with local moonrise visibility.
  • Eclipses: visible only when luminary is above horizon at your location; partial/total phases shown.
  • Indian Important Days: includes national & state formation days for public awareness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can festival dates differ from other websites?

Many sites simplify rules and may ignore factors like local vyapini, Bhadra, viddha at sunrise, or correct day-preference when two dates overlap. We apply Dharmashastra rules consistently for your location.

Is this calendar valid for my city worldwide?

Yes. The engine is location-aware and works for any city/time zone, using local sunrise, sunset and moonrise.

What is the difference between Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi?

They differ mainly in handling viddha and parana rules. Where they diverge, we list both dates so you can follow your family tradition.

Note: Civil/official holiday declarations may vary by country/state. For rituals, consult your family tradition and local temple.
