Vyasa Navagraha Stotram in English letters

Read the Sanskrit hymn in Roman letters, followed by an English explanation. This is a transliteration for reading aloud, not an English translation of every line.

Before you read

A stotra is a hymn of praise. Roman letters help readers follow the Sanskrit text, but spellings alone may not explain pronunciation. Read slowly and ask a knowledgeable teacher about unfamiliar sounds. The phalashruti describes benefits within the devotional tradition.

The Navagraha Stotram composed by Maharishi Vedavyasa is a very powerful hymn for worshipping the nine planets and obtaining their blessings. This Stotram describes each planet with their unique characteristics and prays for them to bestow protection and blessings upon the devotees.
The Stotram describes the Sun as "Japakusumasankasham" (like the blooming Japa flower), the Moon as "Dadhisankhatusharabham" (white like curd, conch and frost), Mars as "Dharanigarbasambhutam" (born from the womb of the Earth), Mercury as "Priyangu kalikashyamam" (dark like the Priyangu bud), Jupiter as "Devanam cha Rishinam cha Gurum" (the Guru of Devas and Rishis), Venus as "Himakundamrunalabham" (white like the snow, Kunda flower and lotus stalk), Saturn as "Neelanjanasamabhasam" (dark like the antimony), Rahu as "Ardha Kayam Mahaveeryam" (having half a body and great strength), and Ketu as "Palasha pushpa sankasham" (red like the Palasha flower).
It is believed that reciting this Stotram daily removes the negative influences of the nine planets and brings peace and happiness in life.
